If memory is low and you have 2300 contacts it is very possible that VoiceDial is crashing because the device is running out of memory and never creates the speech recognizer file VoiceDial.fbx. This would cause VoiceDial to attempt to update the contacts every time that he starts up the application. Here is a potential work-around:
<!--[if !supportLists]-->1) <!--[endif]-->Start the VoiceDial Settings application.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->2) <!--[endif]-->Tap on the contacts tab.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->3) <!--[endif]-->You should be able to tap on the check box on the “Name” column header or a menu item that says something like “disable all contacts” to remove the check mark from all contacts.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->4) <!--[endif]-->Browse through the list and put a check mark next to just the names that you really want/need in the speech recognizer. I doubt that all 2300 are really needed.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->5) <!--[endif]-->I believe that there is a menu item that says something like “Rebuild recognizer”. This will start the process to create VoiceDial.fbx with the trimmed-down list of contact names.

:(Rick, I also have many contacts. I tried this but I got an error that said "cant build menu" when I click on the menu then contacts. I also had trouble getting to the menu prompt. I had to click several times to get it to stop the "updating contacts that was going on"

It might be:
VoiceDial is giving the error: “Can’t load VoiceDial.fbx”. There are a number of ways that this could happen:
1) You could be running out of memory, so you should check to see how much memory you have.
2) Did VoiceDial build the file VoiceDial.fbx? Look in the folder \Program Files\Fonix\VoiceDial to see if there is a file named VoiceDial.fbx.
3) If the file VoiceDial.fbx doesn’t exist then you probably have some problems with the contacts database.
a. Export your Outlook contacts to a file and check the first and last name fields.
b. If there are any non-alphanumeric characters in either of those fields or if there are more than 64 characters in anyone of those fields then you should go into Outlook and fix those fields for that contact.
